At Tupelo Jiu Jitsu Academy, we limit our class size to 45 students to ensure focused, quality training and a true team atmosphere. Spots are limited—reach out to see if we have an opening available!

Focused Training

With a smaller class size, each student gets the individual attention they need to master skills and progress confidently. Our coaches work closely with every child to ensure steady improvement and growth.

Exclusive Opportunity

Our selective process ensures each child is fully committed and invested in their training journey. Tryouts are every Monday at 5 PM—reach out today to see if there’s an opening!

Team Building

At Tupelo Jiu Jitsu Kids, we’re not just a class; we’re a team. A limited number of dedicated students creates a close-knit environment where friendships are formed, and everyone pushes each other to excel.

LET'S GO!

Is Your Child Ready to Be Part of Something Bigger?

Many kids today are looking for a place to belong, to be challenged, and to grow. At Tupelo Jiu Jitsu Kids, we aren’t just teaching martial arts; we’re training athletes who compete, grow, and learn what it takes to win in life.

WHERE PASSION MEETS COMPETITION

Our Programs

Each program focuses on different aspects of martial arts, allowing students to find their strengths, challenge themselves, and grow in a supportive, team-oriented environment.

Whether they’re new to martial arts or looking to compete, there’s a place for every young athlete here.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the foundation of our training. This grappling-focused martial art teaches students how to control and subdue opponents using leverage and technique rather than brute strength. Perfect for all body types and skill levels, BJJ builds confidence, discipline, and resilience—skills that extend far beyond the mat.

MMA

(Mixed Martial Arts)

Our MMA program combines techniques from various martial arts, including boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This well-rounded training teaches students striking, grappling, and real-world self-defense techniques. MMA is an excellent choice for students who want a complete martial arts experience and the opportunity to compete at higher levels.

Submission Wrestling

Submission Wrestling focuses on grappling without the traditional gi, relying on control, strategy, and technical precision. This program is designed for those who want to refine their skills and prepare for no-gi tournaments. It’s an ideal complement to our BJJ training, challenging students to adapt and evolve their techniques.

Preparing Your Child for Their First Martial Arts Class: Tips for Parents

February 08, 20242 min read

Starting a new activity can be both exciting and a little nerve-wracking, especially for kids trying martial arts for the first time. At Tupelo Jiu Jitsu Kids, we want each child to feel comfortable, confident, and ready to enjoy their journey on the mat. Here are some helpful tips for parents to make that first class a great experience!

Tupelo Jiu Jitsu Kids on the mat

1. Set Positive Expectations
Talk to your child about what to expect in a martial arts class and the fun they’ll have learning new skills. Explain that martial arts is all about self-discipline, respect, and learning step-by-step. Reinforce that it’s okay not to be perfect on the first try—their coaches and teammates are there to help them learn and grow.

2. Dress for Success
For the first class, make sure your child wears comfortable, athletic clothing they can move in easily, like a T-shirt and gym shorts. If you’re unsure about gear, don’t worry—we’ll guide you on what they need as they progress. Eventually, they’ll wear a uniform, but for now, focus on making them feel comfortable.

3. Arrive a Little Early
Arriving a bit early can help ease first-day jitters. It gives your child a chance to look around, meet their coach, and get familiar with the space before jumping into class. Plus, it helps you meet the team and ask any last-minute questions you might have.

4. Encourage an Open Mind and Positive Attitude
Remind your child that martial arts is a journey that requires patience and practice. Encourage them to keep an open mind, listen to their coaches, and focus on learning rather than comparing themselves to others. Starting anything new can feel challenging, but a positive attitude can make all the difference.

5. Reinforce the Importance of Respect and Teamwork
Martial arts is as much about building character as it is about learning techniques. Talk to your child about the importance of respecting their coaches and teammates, listening closely, and supporting each other. These qualities will help them thrive in class and grow as part of the Tupelo Jiu Jitsu Kids community.

6. Celebrate Their Effort
After the first class, celebrate their hard work! Ask what they enjoyed, what they found challenging, and what they’re excited to learn next. Even if it was a bit overwhelming, praise them for stepping out of their comfort zone and trying something new. Positive reinforcement will help them feel confident about coming back.
