Building a Legacy of Martial Arts Excellence in Tupelo

About Us

Tupelo Jiu Jitsu Kids was founded in 2020 by Cody Floyd, Tupelo’s first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt, with a mission to train the next generation of martial artists in a positive, disciplined, and competitive environment. With 17 years of experience in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts, Cody has dedicated his life to martial arts and has earned respect as one of the most skilled and committed coaches in the region. His expertise isn’t just recognized locally—Cody has trained fighters who have competed on some of the biggest stages in MMA, including Strikeforce, UFC Fight Pass, Bellator, and more.

Among his notable students are fighters like Ben "Big Tuna" Parrish, Unterio "Undercard" Gladney, and Lige Mitchell, each of whom has gone on to compete in high-profile events, showcasing the strength and skill that Cody instills in all his students. Cody’s dedication to his students, both young and experienced, is evident in their achievements and the respect he has earned in the MMA community. From beginners to professional fighters, Cody’s training has shaped athletes who are disciplined, confident, and ready to take on any challenge.

However, the journey wasn’t easy. Opening the gym in 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, brought immense challenges. With lockdowns, restrictions, and economic uncertainty, building a new business from the ground up required perseverance and grit. Cody faced these challenges head-on, driven by his vision to create a space where young people could train, grow, and build confidence. Despite the obstacles, the gym quickly became a beacon of hope, resilience, and community for young athletes and their families in Tupelo.

Today, Tupelo Jiu Jitsu Kids stands as a testament to Cody’s dedication and the strength of the community that supported him. Each student who walks through our doors becomes part of that legacy, learning not just the techniques of martial arts but the values of respect, discipline, and hard work. We’re proud of where we started, and we’re excited for the future as we continue to train the next generation of champions.

"Supportive Atmosphere"

Cody is a great coach and the entire place has a supportive atmosphere, everyone belongs here. I'd recommend it to anyone. My 6 year old son takes the children's class, and absolutely loves it.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the foundation of our training. This grappling-focused martial art teaches students how to control and subdue opponents using leverage and technique rather than brute strength. Perfect for all body types and skill levels, BJJ builds confidence, discipline, and resilience—skills that extend far beyond the mat.

MMA

(Mixed Martial Arts)

Our MMA program combines techniques from various martial arts, including boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This well-rounded training teaches students striking, grappling, and real-world self-defense techniques. MMA is an excellent choice for students who want a complete martial arts experience and the opportunity to compete at higher levels.

Submission Wrestling

Submission Wrestling focuses on grappling without the traditional gi, relying on control, strategy, and technical precision. This program is designed for those who want to refine their skills and prepare for no-gi tournaments. It’s an ideal complement to our BJJ training, challenging students to adapt and evolve their techniques.
